for us tethering is only really something some witches do w monsters as an amplifier. it's magic sharing more or less, only monsters cant use magic so it's basically just a witch power up
but oli isnt a monster so im pretty sure he's using the power share to stop the corruption spreading. or slowing it.

corruption eats away at a witch until theres nothing left of them. that's how most monsters are made

but i know it would have been some seriously dark magic. it goes so against how our magic works, even necromancers can't really resurrect witches

if your teachers were anything like mine they probably didn't deep dive into magic you weren't supposed to use anyway
