CHARACTER NAME: Nicholas Ó Broin

ABILITIES:
As someone who possesses his main abilities from the natural plane, Nicholas has a certain degree of control over anything natural and alive. His magic is largely drawn from nature (think cliche "green witch") and he feels a certain connection to anything rooted in nature. This isn't to say that his magic only comes from nature, or that he can't access other types of magic, just that his is strongest when used in conjunction with the natural world. This area comes to him like breathing, however due to his lack of application in studies and general unwillingness to learn anything that he isn't already good at, his scope is significantly narrower than most other witches. What Nick does well, he does extremely well, but he has never really attempted to tap into the full extent of his power.
One fun specialty of Nick's personal brand of magic is "empathic detection", which basically means he can sense other magic users. Since this is tied to his natural connection, the level of accuracy and detail in this ability varies wildly. Sometimes he may just recognise a supernatural vibe, other times he basically has a full dossier of their whole capacity sitting comfortably in his mind (we love an easy IC opt-out in this club).
His natural class comes with an innate connection to the world around him, and with it a basic control of the four 'classical' elements of the natural plane - earth, air, water and fire. He hasn't put much work into refining this and as such is still at a basic level of manipulation, though he has a capacity to greatly expand on his abilities in this area — frankly, he mostly uses it to manipulate drugs into wild and wacky combinations that can get even the most hardcore witchy tolerance absolutely blazed. Nick is also a reasonably capable healer, able to deal with basic injuries and ailments, though life threatening injuries are usually outside of his scope and take a great deal of personal energy and risk to his own wellbeing to treat.
Via his family history, Nick has some minor spectral abilities -- nowhere near as strong as his natural magic, and as a result can only be tapped into briefly, or by exerting a great deal of energy and putting himself at risk. Due to this (and the aforementioned dislike of things he's not naturally good at) Nick doesn't dabble in spiritual magic very often, but is able to do some communing with recently deceased souls--he's not likely to experience hauntings, and he typically has to be trying very hard to make any kind of connection or even perceive a spirit, but it's in his wheelhouse and he's better at it than some of the other forms of magic. It's very taxing and makes him feel gross afterwards, so he tries to avoid it if he can. A 'Break Glass In Case Of Emergency' sort of thing.

Nick comes from a very wealthy family, with a "prestigious" family nae within his society attached and all. Even in his estrangement, his lifestyle is largely funded by the family bank account, so the shitty apartment that Nick lives in alone is really more of a cultivated look than any kind of hardship.
WHAT WOULD/DID YOUR CHARACTER MAJOR IN?:
If Nick had ever actually made it through to the higher education he probably would have gone on to specialise more thoroughly in magical healing, but alas, the life of academia was not for him.
WHAT IS THE MOST INTERESTING THING THAT HAS HAPPENED TO YOUR CHARACTER?:
As part of the high school graduation ceremony, the 'final exam' culminated in a night spent in extremely haunted and vicious woods, full of any manner of creatures and entities that would certainly try to kill the students, if not worse. Nick had dropped out of school years before he made it to this point, but snuck into the woods on the night of his friends' ceremony all the same. It's the stupidest thing he's ever done — he barely possesses any kind of offensive magical abilities and certainly had no practice at it, but he couldn't help but shake a bad feeling. In the woods, he had a Very Bad Time but ultimately managed to drag back one of his best friends, August, from the brink of death, with some nasty blood magic to boost his own healing abilities. Everyone made it out alive, but Nick has been left with a gnarly scar on the palm of his hand that is permanently stuck in a state of only-just healed, a cute little reminder of the night they almost got eaten by a demon :)

elevator pitch style: nick is a witch with an affinity for nature and a hobby of making drugs do fun things -- he is here for everyone's weed supply needs fyi. he's fun and flirty and casual with truly anyone and everyone but digging out something deeper can be a challenge.
nick died at the end of feb through plain old fashioned murder and not zombies and so spent the top end of the month resurrecting and grappling with monster stuff, and is now aggressively trying to push through to Being Normal again.
ROOMING SITUATION:
moving into the suite next to pierce's now that their roommate's have scarpered :< but 90% of the time found sleeping wherever august is regardless of official roomie status lets be real
ASSUMED CR:
please!! nick is something of a permanent fixture at sol + scroll (despite continuing to insist he doesn't 'work' there) so people are welcome to recognise him from there. he's also a pretty frequent face at the drug room the coronal and tends to rotate his presence at the various bars on offer around the place. he also has a wee lil garden patch out in the woods that he tends to regularly and also just does witchy shenanigans out there -- and he'll be working to fix this back up post-feb event since all his magical plants + flowers will have died. less frequently but still possibly regularly enough to have been noticed, pops up at the otherworld to get raunchy and oops probably never asks for names,,,
nick has got a shocking sleep schedule so is out and about at all sorts of odd times of the day + night without any real pattern to his roamings. absolutely love to chat about people being familiar faces with each other even if they don't have direct cr yet so please hmu if you want to have some background awareness going on, i live for that stuff!!
CR WISHLIST:
people who have died — new addition to the list--nick died at the end of feb and due mostly to his particular brand of very life-focused magic is very much struggling to grapple with what that means for him, so anyone with experience with death (and especially death + magic) would be fab to throw together
magic users — i adore all the magical cr he has going and would love to keep building on that lil community!!

elevator pitch style: a star high school soccer player turned wilderness survivalist following a plane crash on their way to nationals (which they would have won!!) — has now been stranded for coming up on a year and in that time engaged in fun activities like communing with an entity she believes is the wilderness trying to communicate with her, hallucinating, speaking in tongues and (spoilers:) cannibalism. she's also been off her anti-psychotics for coming up on a year too, but surely this isnt related to any of that stuff!
